A key feature is the light-filled gallery at the rear, which overlooks a courtyard and garden and fills the whole apartment with natural light.

Activities for kids

CLOSE-BY THE APARTMENT:

Avenida Mistral is a pedestrianised street next to the apartment with several outdoor cafes with little closed playgrounds for kids, ideal to have a coffee and to stroll around.

Joan Miró Park

This beautiful park with several playgrounds for all ages, cafés and much more is located just five minutes from the apartment.

Montjuïc

Montjuïc (the "Jewish mountain" in Catalan), located on a hill overlooking Barcelona, is within walking distance. This large park offers all sorts of activities especially for the little ones and can be accessed by cable car or funicular. There is a castle to tour, horses to look at, gardens to picnic in, playgrounds at the Park Joan Brossa, a swimming pool, an amphitheatre and a museum showcasing works of Catalan artist Joan Miró.

The beach

There is no better place  to go with the little ones than the beach, and Barcelona was named the best beach city in the world by National Geographic and its golden sands are well worth a visit. Easily accessed by metro on the yellow L4 line, the beach stretches for several kilometres and you will find all the facilities you need, including parasols, sun loungers, showers and toilets, as well as a good choice of beach bars and kiosks – and even the odd sculpture!

El Cau

El Cau is a new play centre in Barcelona’s L’Eixample district. Designed exclusively for children, it’s a play paradise, created for enjoyment, fun and creativity. It’s an ideal place to go on a rainy day, or when the kids need to burn off some excess energy. Whether you live in Barcelona or are just visiting, El Cau is somewhere where the children are guaranteed to have fun and make friends, while parents can enjoy snacks, chats and spot of relaxation. The concept is similar to that of a gym, but instead of going there for exercise, kids go there to play. One part of the interior space is filled with toys, games, arts and crafts, whilst the other part has an innovative maze-like design with steps, ramps, toboggans and huts where children can run, climb, jump and hide.

FURTHER AFIELD:

Aquarium

A great way to discover the wonders of the deep without getting wet. Ocean, tropical and Mediterranean themed aquariums showcase some of the extraordinary life forms of the sea.

Tibidabo Park

Perched high on a hill and accessed via furnicular, the Tibidabo amusement park is one of the oldest amusement parks in the world. With 25 rides suitable for all ages, a Skywalk and vintage toys museum as well as restaurants and picnic areas it’s a great family day out, and the views of the city are breathtaking.

CosmoCaixa Barcelona

A great indoor option if it’s too hot (or raining) outdoors, is the CosmoCaixa Science Museum in Sant Gervasi. The museum takes children on a journey through the natural world and beyond, exploring rainforests and flooded forests, and travelling through space and time at the planetarium. There are lots of interactive workshops, activities, games and experiments children can take part in.

Address: Carrer d'Isaac Newton, 26, 08022 Barcelona

Barcelona Zoo

One of the oldest zoos in Europe, you could easily spend a whole day here. Animals are well-care for in open enclosures, loosely grouped by region. In addition to lions, tigers, elephants and giraffes, you can see gorillas and orangutans, all sorts of exotic birds, reptiles large and small, and sea lions. Fast food is served at various on-site establishments, or take a picnic with you. A ‘zoo train’ can take you around the grounds, or you can hire a buggy. Added attractions include daily dolphin shows, playgrounds, a farmyard zoo and clowns. Be advised that animals may be sleeping on hot days and kept in doors on cold days.

Petit à Petit Café

This place is not only child-friendly but also beautifully decorated by its owner Marta Codina who is herself a mother and opened this great place close to Plaza Molina (Putxet i Farró district). Parents find time to eat and relax while the children have fun playing in the play area where they can find a mini kitchen, great books and toys to distract themselves or meet new friends. The food is very good too, they offer a large variety of delicious sandwiches, sweet pastries, fresh juices, coffee and tea and a daily lunch menu. We recommend to try their carrot cake!

Shopping

Shopaholics will be in retail heaven in fashionable Barcelona. The city is home to a 5km long shopping strip that stretches from the top of the Ramblas, through Plaça de Catalunya along Passeig de Gràcia and up Avinguda Diagonal. You’ll find all the big names in fashion, a number of quality Spanish designer stores and a host of one-off boutiques in the Gracia district. A bit further out of town La Roca Village is filled with outlet stores offering up to 60% discounts on high street prices.

Spa/Massage

Golf

There are several golf clubs within easy reach of the city, including St Cugat Golf Club, Vallromanes Golf Club, Masia Bach Golf Club and Real Club de Golf El Prat, all less than 25 km away. Visitors are generally welcome but prior reservations are advised.

Bike rental Old Town/Beach

For those who prefer to explore on two wheels there are many bike rental companies in the city that offer rentals by the hour or by the day, as well as organised bicycle tours. Cycling up and down the flat Passeig Maritim, next to the beach, is an easy ride for all fitness levels or, if you prefer to take the easy option, tours of the Barri Gòtic, Barceloneta and the Eixample on a Segway (electric two wheeled scooter) are available.

The Area

The area of Sant Antoni lies within the Eixample neighbourhood, a laid back residential area within easy reach of the main attractions, but well away from the noise of the more tourist-oriented areas. The grid layout makes it easy to navigate and the buildings, most of which were constructed in the early 20th century, are elegant examples of the Modernist style, built around central courtyards.

A recent gentrification of the area has attracted a growing number of young, creative residents, and design boutiques, causal cafes, tapas bars and brunch spots are popping up in the area. In fact, the area is becoming a big foodie destination – this is where celebrated chef Ferran Adriá opened his restaurants.

At the heart of Sant Antoni is the market by the same name (currently closed for renovations but due to reopen in April 2018), one of the most popular markets in the city, selling fresh produce inside, clothes, shoes and house wares outside, and on Sundays, second hand books.

L’Eixample is a very family-friendly neighbourhood, with lots of green spaces, including the Joan Miro park, with playgrounds, basketball and football pitches, and Montjuic where one can go running, walking or take a picnic is just two minutes away. The pedestrianized Avenida Mistral is also a great place to enjoy the many café terraces and play areas for children.

To the southwest is Plaça Catalunya, the very heart of the city and meeting point of various major avenues, and to the northeast is Plaça Espanya, home to the Las Arenas shopping centre and the Museum of Catalan Art. The atmospheric old town and the Passeig de Gracia, where most of Barcelona’s high-end shops are concentrated, are also within walking distance.
