Our Reviews

Toni Schulz stayed in April, 2017 at the Gran Melia Palacio de Isora with his family: "If you´re looking for a place to stay with your little ones - here we go! booked our holidays through them and we were more than happy, will do it definitely again..."

Family Küster stayed in April, 2018 at the Gran Melia Palacio de Isora: "We spent our holidays at Gran Melio Palacio de Isora in Tenerife and had a wonderful family time. Ilo did a great job in organizing our travels and inspired us tremendously. Thank you `LITTLE VOYAGER`."

Kids’ Pool & Playground

There’s plenty of water-based fun in store for youngsters with a 250 m2 kids’ pool, with a pirate ship and waterslides, plus an outdoor playground to enjoy when it’s time to stay dry. There is a second public playground just beyond the perimeter of the resort.

Palacio for Kids

In the evenings during high season, families gather at the Palacio where younger kids can play on the bouncy castle and older kids are kept entertained with video games if they like.

Playhouse Live

Always a hit with children is the hotel theatre. The shows, which are put on in English six nights per week, are fun, interactive and demand audience participation – little ones love it!

Beyond the resort:

Monkey Park

A breeding centre for endangered species, the Monkey Park in southern Tenerife offers an insight into how various primates, reptiles and exotic birds live, eat and breed. A small, friendly place, children love being able to touch and hand feed some of the resident animals.

Siam Park

A huge Thai-themed water park with lazy rivers, rapids, wave pools and white knuckle rides, there is fun to be had for everyone from babies to adults, swimmers and non swimmers alike. Set into lush grounds there are various places to eat and drink and an artificial beach if you just want to soak up some sun.

Submarine Safari

Plunge down up to 30 metres below the surface of the ocean without even getting wet. State of the art submarines are equipped with big viewing windows and tour guides talk you through the marine creatures you pass on your cruise. Not suitable for children under 2.

Whale and Dolphin Watching

Tenerife is one of the top whale and dolphin watching destinations worldwide. Bottlenose dolphins, pilot whales and sperm whales are some of the resident species and boat trips depart from various points along the coast to see these magnificent creatures in their natural environment.

Theme Parks

Tenerife has an impressive number of theme parks, some of which are considered the best in Europe. About 20 minutes from the resort on the Costa Adeja is Aqualand, an open air water park with slides, tube rides, kids pools and a dolphinarium, and Jungle Park is a zoo set into jungle scenery, with over 100 species of exotic birds and animals, some of which perform at scheduled shows.

Activities for adults

At the resort:

Wellness

Breathe, stretch and tone without leaving the hotel. On-site wellness classes include yoga, tai-chi, Pilates, stretching, relaxation and meditation.

Stay Fit

With a gym that is open 24 hours, plus football, tennis, paddle tennis, table tennis, zumba, spinning and archery all available at the hotel, there are plenty of ways to stay fit and active on holiday. Please note the tennis and paddle court are not included in guest services and are subject to an extra charge.

Get wet

The hotel has a total of 7,500 m2 of pools and, in addition to floating and swimming, there are water walkers, aqua aerobics and aqua zumba classes.

Evening entertainment

Once the kids are in bed there is plenty for parents to do: relax with great chill out music at Club Ocean, watch dance, acrobatics and bands at the Atlas Theatre, enjoy live music at Nemo’s piano bar, and at weekends get your dancing shoes on and enjoy one of the fun theme nights at the Lava Disco.

Beyond the resort:

Shopping

The Plaza del Duque shopping mall is an exclusive retail centre, a 25-minute drive from the hotel, with over 60 shops selling designer clothing, jewellery, accessories and perfumes. It also has several restaurants, cafes and a kids’ play area.

The oriental-themed Siam Mall is an open air shopping centre on two levels, with 70 shops set around terraces and parks. Located 20 minutes’ drive from the resort, it has free parking and a kids’ area.

El Teide National Park

At 3718 metres, El Teide, a dormant volcano, is not only the highest peak in Tenerife, but in the whole of Spain. The entire area is a national park and one of the top sights on the island, for its unique landscape of craters, vents, volcanoes and rivers of petrified lava. There are two visitor’s centres, several refreshment areas and trails for those wanting to explore on foot.

If you go to the top, take warm clothing as it’s cold at that altitude, but the views over the small villages and down to the sea are spectacular. It is possible to drive most of the way, and then take a cable car to the very top - but be aware it is not recommended for children under 2 years of age to go to this altitude.

Los Gigantes

Plunge down up to 30 metres below the surface of the ocean without even getting wet. State of the art submarines are equipped with big viewing windows and tour guides talk you through the marine creatures you pass on your cruise. Not suitable for children under 2.

Masca

Perhaps the most charming town on Tenerife, it’s worth the winding drive to get to this colourful and characterful little place in the mountains. Situated on a rocky plateau it offers views of the countryside and a very authentic Canarian vibe. For the energetic, the hike from Los Gigantes to Masca is tough but rewards you with exceptional views and scenery.

The Area

The hotel is located next to the small fishing village of Alcala, on the west coast of Tenerife, an area that enjoys some of the best weather on the island.

The village offers a good choice of local restaurants and shops and a lively market on Monday mornings. Its west-facing position means wonderful sunsets and views of the neighbouring island of La Gomera. A pretty promenade connects the hotel to the village, where there is a small beach, sunbathing platforms with access to the sea and tide pools.

A coastal path from here takes you all the way to the low-key village of Puerto de Santiago. Slightly further north, the cliffs at Los Gigantes are a top climbing destination while to the south the Playa de San Juan, another quiet family-friendly resort, has a couple of pleasant beaches, lots of pavement cafes, and a championship golf course. Whale and dolphin watching trips depart from the marina here.

Head a little inland for great walking trails, spectacular views and a large picnic area in the pine forest at Chio.

Alcala is around 30 km from Tenerife Sur airport.
