Erika visited Martinhal Sagres in July 2020 with her family: "Zu Martinhal Sagres, wir hatten zwei super Wochen Ende Juli/Anfang August. Während es zuhause in der Schweiz 35 Grad hatte , waren es in Sagres “nur” angenehme 25 - genau unser Ding! Aus dem Pool oder Meer heraus kommend schon etwas Gänsehaut Feeling, aber dafür auch Schlafen ohne Klimaanlage im Hochsommer und viel Atlantik-Wind um die Nase, der bei uns spontan Lust auf ein paar Windsurf Stunden machte, während die Kinder im Kids-Club ihren Spaß hatten (etwas abgespecktes Angebot aufgrund von COVID). Das Sicherheitskonzept wird gut umgesetzt und man fühlt sich bestens aufgehoben. Klar, es ist alles etwas eingeschränkt, nicht alle Restaurants sind geöffnet und wenn man beispielsweise ins Fitness-Studio möchte, muss man vorher seinen Slot reservieren. So wenig war garnicht los, also zumindest in unserer ersten Woche. Unser “partial seaview” Ocean-Haus hatte eigentlich vollen Meerblick, zumindest aus dem im ersten Stock gelegenen Wohnbereich, wo sich das Leben abspielt. Insgesamt ist das Martinhal schon sehr gut durchdacht, gutes Publikum, wunderschöne Lage und ganz wichtig, wir hatten jetzt nicht den totalen Kinder Overflow, wovor wir immer etwas Respekt hatten (mag aber auch der geringeren Auslastung geschuldet sein). Super Wassersport-Möglichkeiten! Kompliment an Ilonka von The little Voyager, die immer zeitnah antwortet und jede noch so kleine Rückfrage zuverlässig und geduldig beantwortet. Activities for kids

At the resort:

Creche & Raposinhos Kids Club

Babies aged 6 to 24 months can be taken care of at the crèche and a kids’ club for 2 to 5 year olds runs year round. Additional clubs for older age groups run during school holidays. All are centred around the Village Square and offer a mix of supervised indoor and outdoor activities.

Teens & Tweens Clubs

For older kids the Explorers Club (age 10 to 14) and the Blast Club (aged 15 to 17) offer all sorts of fun experiences from scuba diving and surfing to cycling and sailing.

Evening activities

During high season pyjama parties and mini discos are offered three nights a week from 6pm to 9pm allowing parents to enjoy a quiet dinner together. Babysitters are also available.

Playground

The resort has a total of 3300 square metres of space dedicated to children, including various playgrounds and play zones located next to restaurants so that families can eat together without little ones getting bored.

Ice Cream

AliceE in Sagres town serves exceptional home made ice cream – a great reward at the end of a bike ride from the resort.

Water parks

There are several water parks including Slide and Splash on the road to Faro. These are best visited early or late in the season as they get very busy in the peak months.

Zoomarine

A marine theme park that is focused on education and rehabilitation, where adults and children can enjoy slides, rides and pools, as well as interacting with dolphins and watching marine mammal and bird of prey presentations.

Fiesa Sand Sculpture Festival

Pera, Algarve is home to the world’s largest sand sculpture festival each year, which runs from May to October. Visitors can admire the incredibly detailed sculptures, some up to 12 metres tall, as well as joining workshops, watching demonstrations and taking guided tours.

Beach Day

The Algarve is packed with beaches so why not pack a picnic and some beach gear and spend the day building sandcastles, jumping in the waves and relaxing in the sun?

Bikes & Cycling

Mountain bikes can be rented at the resort for exhilarating rides along the cliffs. For teens and tweens, cycling tracks in front of the As Dunas restaurant keeps kids amused while parents eat. Guided bike tours and bike track lessons are also available.

Spa

Guests large and small can escape into a world of relaxation and pampering at the Finisterra Spa. Everything from child manicures to adult body wraps is available, with many of the treatments inspired by the sea.

Swimming pools

Four pools located throughout the grounds mean plenty of space to swim some lengths or splash around. All are heated, one is indoor/outdoor, and one is a free form beach-entry pool and one has an adjacent sauna and steam room.

Sports

The resorts has two artificial grass tennis courts, two glass-sided PADEL courts, a multi-purpose sports ground and a full gym. Group fitness, yoga and pilates classes are offered regularly.

Water Sports

The Water Sports Centre rents windsurf equipment, SUPS and kayaks and offers classes in windsurfing, SUP, sail boat and paddleboats. Diving, SUP tours and dolphin watching trips are also available.

Surfing

Half and full day surf classes take place off site but can be arranged through the hotel. Surfing lessons are open to all members of the family over age 8.

Hiking

The surrounding natural park offers endless hikes taking in lighthouses, fortresses and beaches. Guided walking tours can be arranged.

Golf

The Algarve boasts over 30 golf courses and of those, four are within a 20 to 40 minute drive of the resort. Private lessons are available.

Other activities

Horse riding, jeep safaris, sailing trips, skydiving, helicopter flights, hot air balloon rides and more are available.

The Area

Sagres is quite unlike anywhere else in southern Portugal. Located on the western tip of the Algarve and occupying the most south-westerly point in Europe, it’s isolated position gives it an end-of-the-world feel.

Up until the 15th century, this was as far as the known world extended. It was here that Henry the Navigator, the Portuguese prince who ushered in the Age of Discovery, brought together ship builders, cartographers, astronomers and mariners and challenged them to find out what lay beyond the horizon.

Today, Sagres sits within the Costa Vicentina national park, a protected coastal area of dramatic natural beauty characterised by towering cliffs, pounding seas and dozens of vast, empty beaches.

Sagres town perches on a headland, overlooking a picturesque harbour that is still a centre for lobster fishing and boatbuilding. Here one can find a handful of casual bars and eateries, but little else. Mass tourism has yet to reach this remote corner of the Algarve and those that visit therefore tend to be of an adventurous mind-set.

Surfers, windsurfers, kite surfers and body boarders all come to enjoy the wind and waves whilst hikers and mountain bikers find solitude and spectacular scenery on land.

Sagres enjoys around 300 days of sunshine per year and the constant breezes coming off the Atlantic take the edge of the heat in mid-summer.

It is around 20 minutes from Lagos and the nearest airport is Faro, 1 hour and 30 minutes away.
