Our Reviews

Clemmie and Simon Hooper @mother_of_daughters and @father_of_daughters  stayed with their 4 daughters at The French Country Boutique Houses end of May 2019:

"Holiday review of the South Of France (this isn’t an ad but we were so impressed with the whole set up I wanted to share our experience)

We booked the house through a small travel company @the.little.voyager who specialise in holidays for young children. When they said you don’t need to pack any toys they weren’t joking - the house had lovely toys, games, puzzles, bath toys, a potty, stair gate bed guards... basically we arrived and instantly felt at ease. The gardens were stunning with a secure gated heated pool, large play barn, 2 tree houses and a huge lawn to play football on. It’s situated in the beautiful countryside near Carcassonne (which has its own tiny airport) but you definitely need a car. We hired the larger of the houses for the 6 of us which were perfectly equipped with literally everything you need to make your holiday feel super relaxing. All the girls loved having the freedom to roam outside and we loved knowing they were safe and we could then enjoy sitting in the sun with a glass of wine. The owners live on site and were available if we ever needed them which was really reassuring. We loved the entire set up of this holiday it was one of the ‘easiest’ trips we done abroad with all the children and might book again for longer next summer ?? "

The pool, which is heated and fenced with a childproof gate, is equipped with plenty of inflatable toys for little ones and a wooden cabin with toys for when they need a little shade. Sun loungers and parasols also make it ideal for parents to relax poolside while the kids play.

Play Areas:

French Country Chic Log Cabin with The Little Voyager

An outdoor play area close to the houses includes a slide, swings, a wooden pirate ship, a trampoline and a log cabin. Indoors there is an underground games room with table football, ping pong and family games. Toys and books for children are also provided.

The barn:

French Country Chic Barn with The Little Voyager

There is also a large barn, open on one side, that is equipped with ride on toys for youngsters and chill out area for parents to enjoy a drink at sunset.

Outdoor activities:

The surrounding countryside provides lots of outdoor sports options, from horse rides and bike rides to tennis. The river Aude and the Lys and St Georges gorges create ideal conditions for practicing a number of river-based activities like kayaking, rafting and swimming.

Lac de la Cavayere

This artificial lake close to Carcassone with a beach, picnic spots, swimming areas, boats for hire and crazy golf is a great place to while away a summer’s day.

Animal parks

There are several parks in the region where children can see and interact with wild animals. The African Reserve at Sigean, Narbonne, has 300 hectares of wilderness where big game roam around; Parc Australien is home to kangaroos, wallabies and ostriches; Esperaza, 30 mins away, has an interactive Dinosaur Museum featuring dinosaur fossils found in the area, and in the Black Mountains kids can ride llamas.

Cite de l’espace

This theme park on the outskirts of Toulouse is focused on space and space travel. With full-scale models of space rockets, a planetarium, IMAX cinema and hundreds of interactive exhibits, it’s a fun day out for all the family.

Activities for adults

At the property

Relaxing massage and beauty treatments can be pre-booked.

Wine tasting

The Languedoc Roussillon is a large wine growing region, which produces many excellent wines. You will find great vineyards close by the property or if you prefer, private wine tastings can be arranged on site on request.

Bike rental

Bicycles can be hired for scenic rides and discovering the village.

Cultural tours

There are many of fortified towns, medieval castles and places of historic importance to visit all within less than an hour’s drive. Don’t miss the famous citadel of Carcassonne, the mysterious hilltop village of Rennes les Chateaux, the subject of a number of conspiracy theories, the mountain top Peyrepertuse castle, and the beautiful town of Limoux.

Golf

There are various golf courses in the area. The 18-hole Carcassonne Golf course sits at the foot of the historic city and offers superb views over the Pyrenees and very peaceful ambiance. Open year-round.

Flying lessons

For the ultimate thrill, book a flying lesson at very reasonable rates. Alternatively, book a light aircraft with a pilot and get a bird’s eye view of the region – or fly over to Spain for lunch.

The Area

The Aude region of the Languedoc offers an altogether more tranquil and authentic version of southern France than one finds at the seaside resorts. Here, medieval castles perch on rocky crags and rivers meander gently through lush valleys.

Undulating vines and farmland surround sleepy villages, where family bakeries turn out fabulous breads and afternoon activities may be limited to a game of boules under the shade of a plane tree. There are plenty of historic towns and villages – most notably the citadel of Carcassonne – and the pretty Canal du Midi winds its way peacefully through the area.

With rivers, gorges, valleys and lakes, the scenery is spectacularly varied and begs to be discovered, and winery tours are always a popular way to spend a day or two when in the area. The peaks of the Pyrenees – good for skiing in winter, and walking in summer - are an hour away, and the coast is about the same.
