The recently renovated property offers guests all the comfort and style of a contemporary family home, within an authentically rural setting.

With five double bedrooms and three bathrooms in the main house, a large pool, ample terrace space, gardens and a separate annexe, there is plenty of space for groups of up to 10 to cook and eat together, yet still find quiet corners to relax in.

The main house, which dates back to 1855, displays many of the original arches, wooden beams and stone work features, yet is bright, spacious and fashionably furnished, and fitted with a sleek contemporary kitchen and bathrooms. The owners, who have small children themselves, make toys and games available to families and are more than happy to erect safety barriers where needed.

During the warm summer months you are likely to spend most of your time outdoors. The large pool includes a shallow area where little ones can play, and both pool and surrounding terrace are fully fenced for safety.

A rustic-style annexe adjacent to the pool terrace puts everything you need within easy reach: a second kitchen, additional bathroom, fitness room and living area. Two portable barbecues and a dining table shaded by an awning mean you can both cook and eat alfresco.

Beyond the pool is a small playground where kids can play under the shade of the holm oaks.

The land around the farmhouse is still actively farmed so permanent residents include a flock of sheep, chickens and ducks. The charming family who own the property regularly pop by with freshly harvested fruits and vegetables and are more than happy to help with advice and recommendations.

Beaches

Apulian Beach Front with The Little Voyager

Mallorca’s coastline is dotted with beaches: some small, some large, some pristine and undeveloped, others noisy and crowded. Those with easy access and parking get particularly crowded during the summer months, so going early is a good option if you want to escape the masses.

Noteworthy beaches include:

  • Cala Sanau:
A small but spectacular cove you must not miss. www.calasanau.com
  • Formentor: Located at the northern tip of the island, it is quite a drive to reach this famous beach – but it’s worth the trip for the crystal clear water and white sand.
  • Cala Murta: To reach this pristine cove you will need to drive beyond Formentor beach and then walk around 30 mins to reach it. It may therefore not be suitable for young children. You’ll find picnic tables on the beach, but little shade.
  • Es Trenc: on the south side, this virgin beach is several kms long, and lapped by calm, turquoise water. Accessible from Colonia St Jordi, Sa Rapita or Ses Covetes, the sea is generally calm and it’s easy to park, although you may have to pay to do so.
  • Illetas: Two small coves with a trendy bar and restaurant built into the hillside behind one of them, these beaches are popular with families and make a good cooling-off spot after a day exploring Palma, as they are just a few miles west of the capital.

Water sports

Jetski Balear, rents kayaks and stand up paddle boards and takes guests on guided jet ski excursions. Located 12 km from Portocolom. jetskibalear.com

Palma

Palma really does have something for everyone: Mega yachts line the Paseo Maritimo on one side, bars and restaurants on the other. The huge, gothic cathedral marks the heart of the old city, much of which has been carefully restored, and exclusive shops can be found along El Borne and Jaime III. The farmers market and the pedestrian streets of Santa Catalina are great for all ages, day or night. Kids will love eating at Trens, where food is delivered by toy train.

Soller

This pretty town on the far side of the Tramuntana mountains makes a good day trip for the whole family. Save time and take the tunnel – you’ll emerge in a lush world of terraced orange and lemon groves, and pretty cobbled streets. After exploring Soller, take the tram to Port de Soller and walk along the seafront, enjoy a swim at the beach or an ice cream at one of the many waterfront bars.

Activities for adults

Wineries

Wine tasting

The Anima Negre winery, established in 1994, has earned international recognition for its quality, elegant wines. The estate, a former dairy farm, is well worth a visit. www.annegra.com

Golf

Golfers are spoilt for choice in Mallorca. Of the 20 courses on the island, the 18-hole Vall D’Or course, located between Felanitx and Portocolom is the closest. www.valldorgolf.com

Boat Rentals

Rent boats, with or without a licence, in Portocolom. Boats up to 4 metres are available to rent without a licence and speed boats or typical mallorquin boats up to 12 metres can be rented if you have a licence. www.bootcharter-portocolom.com

Valldemosa and Deia

Built into the hillsides from honey-coloured stone, and enjoying outstanding views, the villages high in the Tramuntana mountains are extremely picturesque. Two of the prettiest are Valldemosa, where Chopin famously lived, and Deia, a Mediterranean hideaway for many present-day celebrities.

Desert Island

Boat trips from Colonia St Jordi can take you out to the small, uninhabited island of Cabrera, a national park, for the day. There you can explore pristine coves, hike along well marked trails, climb up to the castle on the hill and marvel at the unique light inside the Blue Cave. excursionsacabrera.es

Caves

The Cuevas del Drach is a large cave system 30km from the property, with impressive stalactites and stalagmites and a large subterranean lake. Tours include a classical music concert and boat trips across the lake. www.cuevasdeldrach.com

The Area

Felanitx, the municipality in which the property is located, is some 50km from Palma. It is a largely agricultural region characterised by rolling hills, ancient stone-built villages and working farms. The finca is located in a tranquil rural area, and the property includes land that is still farmed.

Life here moves at an unhurried pace. The region is particularly well known for its wine production (several wineries can be visited) as well as the local olive oil and capers.

Felanitx town, the largest town in the area, that is home to a medieval castle and historic church and monastery, as well as supermarkets, pharmacies, bars and restaurants, is less than 10 minutes’ drive away.

The coast is also only 10-15 minutes away. The closest seaside resort is Portocolom, where you will find a harbour and several beaches. Mondrago Natural Park is slightly further away and boasts undeveloped coves, pine forests and wetlands.
