Activities for kids

Kids are both welcome and well looked after at The French Château.

Kids Club

French Chateau Kids Club with The Little Voyager

The Kids Club runs throughout the school holidays and the sessions are designed for the kids to have good old-fashioned fun at a wide range of activities focusing on nature, arts & crafts, sports, games and new experiences like the archeological dig. The club welcomes kids five days a week from Mondays to Fridays and is run by qualified, friendly, bilingual staff (French and English). The Kids Club is open to children aged 4 to 12 years. Please note it is not included in the price of the accommodation and places are limited so it is recommended to book in advance.

Archeological Dig

The property was originally the site of a Roman villa and next door to the kitchen garden you'll find large sand pits where if they are lucky, kids might find some real Roman pottery that has been found on the estate. Rakes and spades are provided beside the dig.

Toys & Games

Toys and games are available on request from Reception (subject to availability).

Bike hire

The French Chateau Bikes with The Little Voyager

On site they have lots of adult and children’s bikes which are free for guests to use on a first reserved, first served basis. Pick up a bike and explore the area, there is a lot to experience and see!

Kids dinner

Monday to Friday evenings in July and August they host a supervised kids dinner party. With a menu that is both healthy and fun to eat, the dinner party lets kids get to know each other and allows parents to take time over a leisurely meal later in the evening. Kids dinner is is served from 6pm and needs to be booked in advance.

Kids parties

There are also regular evening activities for children during school holidays, which are advertised on the blackboard. Bookings can be made during the day for the same evening, so you don’t have to make your plans too far in advance.

Beach day

The French Chateau places for kids to play with The Little Voyager

There are many beaches in the region so why not pack a picnic and some beach gear and spend the day building sandcastles, jumping in the waves and relaxing in the sun? Just west of Sérignan, Valras (about a 35 minute drive) is a traditional beach town, quite built up with lots of restaurants and shops. Very child friendly – with a good playground on the sands, a drop-in childrens club and a port to wander around. The beach itself stretches for 4km and has plenty of water sports and leisure facilities. It’s very safe for swimming too.

Train to Beziers and beyond

Just a 25 minute walk across the vineyards will bring you to the village of Magalas where there is a small train station with daily connections to the main line at Béziers. Trains are infrequent but there are generally two in the morning and two in the afternoon to return you to Magalas, tickets cost just 1€ per way and the journey takes 13 minutes!

Activities for adults

The grounds

The French Chateau Grounds with The Little Voyager

The Château estate occupies an elevated 200-acre site with uninterrupted views of rolling vineyards, olive groves and woodlands, perfect for a gentle stroll, bike ride or a run along one of the trails. Around the Château there are several tiered terraces set in beautifully manicured, aromatic gardens, all equipped with comfortable seating so that you can relax and admire the views.

Le Spa

French Chateau Spa with The Little Voyager

Choose from the range of massages, scrubs and wraps, hammam rituals, facials, and beauty treatments available, or have your nails and make-up done. The spa is open to guests over the age of 16. Teenagers between 16 and 18 years must be accompanied by an adult. Children are not allowed in the spa except during winter school holidays from 10am-12pm. Facilities include a sun-filled indoor/outdoor solarium featuring a 12m heated swimming pool, aromatherapy hammam and sauna, relaxation area, jacuzzi, fitness area and four treatment rooms (including one for couples). Outside, the generous terrace and aromatic gardens have secluded double loungers positioned to make the most of the views over the vineyards.

Vineyard trails

The French Chateau and Truffles with The Little Voyager

Discover the vineyards surrounding the estate and learn about the different grape varietals grown on the property following the red or blue markings. Access to the walks are free, a map is available at reception. Every Monday from May to September, a guided wine walk with a specialist is available to give more insight into wine making in the Languedoc. The walk culminates with a visit to the winery and a tasting in the cellar room.

Truffle walks

After the discovery of truffles on the estate during the renovation, the owners decided to embark on developing a plantation and have created a guided walk for guests. From the main car park you just turn right in front of the vines and you will find the start approximately 100 meters on your left hand side.

Tennis

The property features a masterclay championship-sized court which is free to use for guests. They also provide good quality rackets and balls, free of charge.

Caveau

The French Chateau Caveau with The Little Voyager

The cellars and vines at the Château were fully restored between 2013 and 2016 and are the fruit of a collaboration between Vignobles Bonfils and Domaine & Demeure. Located behind the château, the winery and tasting room offer our guests the opportunity to taste and purchase wines from our different estates at cellar door prices.

The Area

The Hérault region of the Languedoc offers an altogether more tranquil and authentic version of southern France than one finds at the seaside resorts. Here, medieval castles perch on rocky crags and rivers meander gently through lush valleys.

Undulating vines and farmland surround sleepy villages, where family bakeries turn out fabulous breads and afternoon activities may be limited to a game of boules under the shade of a plane tree.

There are plenty of historic towns and villages – most notably the market towns of Pézenas and Béziers and the citadel of Carcassone – and the pretty Canal du Midi winds its way peacefully through the area.

The stunning Haut Languedoc Parc is located 25 minutes North of the Château, with mountains, rivers, gorges, valleys and lakes, the scenery is spectacularly varied and begs to be discovered, and winery tours are always a popular way to spend a day or two when in the area.

The coast is about 30 minutes away with beautiful sandy beaches and inland lagoons which are used to farm delicious oysters.
