Rooftop Tea is a great pop-up event that takes place four to five times a year in unique locations always somewhere in the centre of Barcelona. The pop-up event gives people the chance to enjoy a full English Afternoon Tea whilst meeting new people in a beautiful and friendly setting.

Coming Friday, April 13 the afternoon tea will take place at Smileroom.

I was born and raised in Germany. My mom is Hungarian, my dad is German and due to my father’s profession, we travelled a lot when I was little. So whenever I am on the road or at an airport I feel happy.

I left Germany when I was 25 and now I have lived for almost 19 years in Barcelona, I got married and had two wonderful children.

About 4 years ago when my son was a baby, we booked a self-catering apartment that looked beautiful on the website but when we arrived the reality was nothing like the photos. The bed was too small to co-sleep and a steep unprotected staircase was a constant danger to my son, who was crawling around. The trip that was supposed to be a relaxing break ended up being more stressful and expensive than staying at home.

“Our Dream School” is the Passion Project of good friends of mine who strongly believe that our school system has a lot of room for improvement and who would like to offer a valid alternative to the traditional and old-fashioned school system that we all encounter in many European countries and around the world.

They base their knowledge and expertise on the best practice of the most innovative schools from around the world and in collaboration with carefully chosen thought leaders for learning.

Coming Sunday, March 11 it is Theatre time again at El Cau, a unique and lovely space which has been designed with family fun in mind.

Theatre plays are usually performed in the Catalan language so this Sunday they are very pleased to offer one in English to the international crowd in Barcelona. It is a shadow play for children age 4 and above and it will take around 45 minutes, starting at 11:30am.

I fell in love with the brand new family theatre play club Lola&Leon in Sitges that opened in December last year. The owner has created a beautiful and unique spot for big and small where the whole family is welcome and it is all about making friends, learning and playing freely as if in your living room (though the cakes taste much better than at home!).

Soon it will be that time of year when some of us parents have to work (unfortunately) while the children will be on their Easter break. So now is the time that many of us are looking for the right Easter Camp to look after the kids and keep them entertained and happy.

Here are some Easter Camp suggestions for different places we like in and around Barcelona:

1.) Happy Milk

Happy Milk, the beautiful Moms and Kids Club in the city centre offers an Easter Camp from March 26 – March 29 for kids age 1-6.

Happy Milk opened its doors almost 2 years ago in the centre of Barcelona and might not need a very detailed introduction as it is already very well known amongst local moms and moms-to-be.

For those that have not been there yet, Happy Milk is a beautiful Moms and Kids Club where experiences are shared, work can be done while little ones are taken care of (there is a lovely co-working space), family, pregnancy and fitness classes are offered, private events are organised and kids can participate in a large variety of activities with qualified native speaking teachers.

Travelling with the entire family can turn out to be very expensive, especially when children start attending school and families are forced to take their holidays when everybody else does. And certainly, not everyone has a limitless budget but this doesn’t mean they won’t be able to enjoy a fabulous family holiday. There are still many affordable places to discover, including the following beautiful and budget-friendly accommodations:

1.) The French Rural Retreat

Located in a tranquil medieval village not too far from Carcassonne you will find this lovely family-run bed & breakfast in a former master’s house that dates back almost 200 years.

Sevenoaks Mums are based in the beautiful Kent town of Sevenoaks in the south east of England about 30 miles outside of London. Their 6000+ members are mostly local Mums looking for events and family activities and amenities as well as inspiration and information via their varied blogs. Their members include stay at home Mums and full time working mums and lots of mums running their own independent businesses from home.

At Foodies it is all about healthy food using top quality ingredients. This lovely restaurant in the family friendly neighbourhood of Poblenou offers daily menus with vegan and vegetarian options plus a home delivery menu which can be ordered online. On weekends they offer a delicious brunch for their guests.

They also like to organise special workshops at their restaurant that all have to do with healthy living.

Before my son was born I lived in the neighbourhood of Sant Gervasi and I discovered CreixambTraça (“Grow with skills”)  for the first time on the way to my routine check-up during my pregnancy.

One day I stepped inside, and after being welcomed warmly, I became very interested in starting my pre-natal classes with them but we moved outside of town so due to logistics I decided otherwise.
