Umbria, Italy

Things to do - general

The green heart of Italy, land-locked Umbria is a one of kind province. With no large cities or busy beach resorts, Umbria’s central appeal is its gently rolling landscapes, unhurried pace and the delightful historic towns and villages that perch on hilltops.

This largely rural region is characterised by tracts of woodland, olive groves and flower-filled meadows. A place to enjoy the serenity of the countryside, there are plenty of picturesque walks and bike rides, as well as tranquil Lake Trasimeno and the stunning Marmore waterfalls.

History lovers will be spoiled for choice with Roman, Etruscan and medieval sites peppered across charming towns like Perugia, Assisi and Spoleto; culture seekers will find some of Italy’s liveliest festivals take place here, and foodies can indulge in robust, hearty flavours including, of course, the highly prized truffle.

Above all though, Umbria is a place to indulge in peaceful, rural relaxation.
