Now that Lago Mar Beach Resort & Club forms part of our collection of child-friendly accommodation, it is about time to write about fun activities with kids once in Fort Lauderdale.
One highlight is a visit to the great Museum of Science and Discovery.
Only a 15 minute cab ride from the hotel, you can find this unique museum suitable for young and old with many interesting things to see and do. The museum, one of the largest of its kind in Florida, is an interactive place with many hands on activities on two levels plus a large outdoor playground with lots of fun educational things to explore.
The museum features amongst many other cool things a simulated ride to Mars and the Everglades, which was so much fun for all of us! You can experience hurricane force winds in the Storm Center, watch the large aquariums with everything from otters to baby alligators and get close to tarantulas, frogs, turtles and many other interesting creatures! My son could not stop watching the tarantulas and he still talks about them now and then…
And if all of this is not enough, there is also an amazing IMAX 3D theater, which is home of the biggest screen in South Florida!
A must-see: At the entrance you can gaze at the “Great Gravity Clock”, which is one of only three gravity clocks worldwide and one of the main attractions of the museum. Very special to look at!
Opening hours are Monday – Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. Entrance fee for adults is $16 and for children age 2-12 $13. Kids age 1 and under go for free.
