It takes a mom or parent to create a space suitable for other parents and this is exactly what Ekaterina Alvarez Melloni, an expat mom living in Barcelona, did.
The reality of life and being an international family abroad without regular support of grandparents or other relatives hit her hard when her son was born. She claims she struggled and lived in a survival mode for several months trying to keep up with work, family life and her own personal interests, a reality that we all know well once our first child is born. She looked for a reliable nanny but could not find the right person she could trust with her child.
So at this point her business idea came into her mind as she thought that Barcelona needed a safe space where parents can leave their children for a couple of hours and have peace of mind knowing that their children are in good hands.
About 1 year later, on October 20, Kids Time Me Time opened its doors to the public and Ekaterina did a wonderful job in creating a beautiful and child-friendly space made from natural materials only. The center accepts children from 0 to 7 years and is open every day from Monday to Saturday, even during most school breaks except for official public holidays. Saturday afternoons and Sundays are used for private celebrations only.
There is no need to book in advance, you can just drop by and pay by the hour. The hourly “drop-in day care service” costs 9 € / hour and they also have packages which will reduce the cost of the hourly rate up to 5 Euros. The location in Gracia is perfect and easily accessible by public transport.
Kids Time Me Time offers daily classes and activities based on the Vygotsky methodology, which includes science projects, planting and gardening, arts & crafts and yoga for kids. Please note activities have an additional fee to cover costs for the materials.
