Every time I walk with my kids towards the Kids Villa at Grand Hotel Heiligendamm, it feels like Pippi Longstocking will stick her head out of one of the big windows to greet us… And indeed there is something really fairy tale like about this villa which makes my kids and myself feel very much at home. It is not only thanks to its fantastic and child-friendly space but also thanks to the extremely caring staff who welcome kids year after year and make them feel cared about.
Michaela, Janet and Hella are the three gifted ladies running the Kids Villa making sure no one feels left out. They have all work there for over a decade and lots of kids have spent many summers at this great villa making new friends and enjoying their holidays. It is heartwarming to see how the kids arriving at the hotel come running to greet them at the villa.
The villa is built on three levels with different themes.
The ground floor has a jungle theme which is supposed to transport the little visitors to the African wilderness. There is an Arts & Crafts area, lots of different toys, games and books, a great wooden toy shop and a “dream room” with many cuddly toys and large sofas to lie down and relax. Usually after lunch kids are encouraged to unwind there for a while, listening to a story or reading a book.
From the ground floor the garden area can be accessed, a spacious area with swings, toys, a large sandpit, enough space to kick a ball or play some table tennis.
One of the highlights is the giant tunnel slide which leads from the first floor into the garden.
The “Western City” on the first floor can live out cowboy dreams in the Wild West. There is a selection of costumes for kids to dress-up in if they like, a football table and a great climbing frame for little monkeys just like my kids to practice their climbing skills.
The top floor provides a place for older children and teens, where they can find great books to read plus board or video games to play.
The “Space Shuttle” theme of this floor includes funky Captain Kirk armchairs and a cinema with a 3-metre-wide screen and relaxing recliners that invite kids for a great movie night.
They offer daily lunch and dinner for kids and special dietary requirements can be catered for. On request, they can also order complimentary baby food (including fresh meat and vegetable purees).
One thing I really like is the concept that parents are welcome to stay with their little ones so at the villa you can meet a great mix of kids of all ages & nationalities and see parents playing with their kids or simply hanging out a bit. Children below age 3 need to be accompanied by a parent or babysitter.
No need to say I am a big fan of this place (and my kids too) and we will surely be back for some more fun in the future!
